We flew into Managua, Nicaragua from Houston on a hot July day. It’s about a three hour plane ride. From the sky, we had a great view of the volcano that dominates the Managuan landscape.[

We were met at the airport by Miriam and Hector Morales. We loaded our suitcases in the truck and started out on our four hour drive to the El Recreo Coffee Farm.[
But first, we stopped at a roadside cafe for Gűirilas, a sweet corn pancake-like tortilla. It was unbelievably delicious served with crumbled cheese and a tangy cream. Fanta was the perfect pairing.[

Our trip took us along the Pan-American Highway through the town of Sebaco, then a right turn up into the mountains and the El Recreo Coffee Farm.[
